Austin Rester - Head Coach
Austin began coaching in college as a student assistant for the Texas Tech women’s volleyball program. Every year since, he has coached in some form or fashion -- professional, college, club or high school volleyball, from beginners to current AVP/NVL professionals. His teams have regularly taken top honors in their divisions. He spent four years coaching varsity at Cathedral Catholic High School, during which time he led both the boy's sand volleyball team and the boy's indoor team to the San Diego championships. As program director and coach at COAST Volleyball Club in San Diego, Austin coached numerous teams to medals at Junior Nationals. Recently, Austin head coached Sunshine’s 17-1s and 14-Southbay teams at Junior Nationals in Minneapolis. The 17-1s finished 5th in the 17Open Division. A three-sport athlete in college, Austin played basketball and football at Texas Tech before transferring to No. 1-ranked University of Hawai’i to play volleyball. Austin played volleyball professionally, both beach and indoor, for nine seasons. Won the Hermosa and Milwaukee NVL events in 2014. Led the US charge and won a gold medal in the 2013 NORCECA St. Lucia event. Runner-up for AVP Rookie of the Year in 2006 and became one of the premier blockers on the AVP tour. Played in 80 professional tournaments throughout the world. Austin began pursuing professional indoor volleyball overseas in 2009. Played one season with CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria in 2009, the highest-achieving professional team in Bulgarian volleyball history; 2nd round in European Champions League and won the Bulgarian National Championship and Cup. In 2011 and 2012, played in Puerto Rico for Adjuntas Volleyball Club. Led Adjuntas as one of the league's top two point-scorers and passers, and top 10 in blocks and aces. In the spring of 2012, Austin played for Buenos Aires Unidos, an elite team in Argentina.
Lacey Fuller - Assistant Varsity Coach | Frosh/Soph Coach
Lacey Fuller was born and raised in San Diego. Growing up in SoCal, volleyball has always played a significant role in her life. After competing for a variety of elite teams in high school and club, Lacey was recruited to play division I volleyball for Penn State University. Over the course of her collegiate career, she was able to secure a starting position as a defensive specialist while also helping lead her team to two back-to-back national championships. This will be her first season coaching at Mira Costa. She is honored to work under such a distinguished program and is ready for a fun season ahead. Go Mustangs!
Ian Satterfield - JV Coach
Mira Costa alumnus Ian Satterfield was an outside hitter and opposite for the Mira Costa Boys Volleyball Program. His team made back-to-back CIF Finals appearances and brought home a Southern Section Division I title in 2008. He made 1st Team All CIF two years in a row and was named Daily Breeze Boys Volleyball Player of the Year, Bay League MVP, and Best of the West Tournament MVP. Ian played club for Riptides and SCVC but won gold and bronze medals at the Junior Olympics for Pacific Palisades. Ian continued his volleyball career at Long Beach State and graduated with a BS in Business Marketing. He played opposite for the Men’s Indoor team under Olympic coaches Alan Knipe and Tyler Hildebrand. After college, Ian made the transition from indoor to beach. He competed in the Pan American Games in 2015 with Miles Evans. Over the last two years, Ian has competed in events for the Australian Pro Tour, NORCECA, FIVB World Tour, and AVP. Mira Costa alumnus Ian Satterfield has coached for USA Beach Volleyball and 949 Athletics (Boys JO’s Gold Medal) and currently coaches club for Surfside. He also coaches 1-on-1 privates, semi-privates, and group sessions for both indoor and beach.
Tim Cooper - Trainer
Tim returns to Mira Costa for his twenty-seventh year as Head trainer for all sports. Tim is at every home game and at practices, ready to assist the athletes in any way needed. He provides the best in healthcare and injury rehabilitation, and is loyal to each team as well as each coach. Tim has a great attitude and is the consummate professional. He is a friend, a sports psychologist, and a strength coach, to our athletes, and his expertise is greatly needed. All of the girls' on the volleyball team find Tim to be a true inspiration, and the seniors will greatly miss his summer pool workouts and conditioning. When not assisting our athletes, Tim trains professional beach volleyball players in plyos and beach drills. His clients include: Olympic Gold medalist Eric Fonoimoana, Jeff Nygard, Fred Souza, Adam Jewell, Albert Hannemann, John Mayer, Anthony Medel and Jeff Carucci. Tim’s knowledge of sports medicine has been instrumental in keeping our teams healthy and successful, and we thank him.
